Moovin

What if you could make great interior design available to consumers on a rental basis?
— Me

Moovin was a concept that I built from scratch, much of it as a solo founder.

The idea was, what if you could make great looking interior design available to consumers via a rental model? In essence, what I was building was an ability for a consumer to walk into their new apartment, go on the Moovin app and essentially snap their fingers and get great looking interior design delivered and set up in their space, all for a monthly fee. When the user wanted to move or just wanted a new design, they could go back on the app and get a new design.

Below are some photos of projects Moovin completed. Further below is more info on the tech I built that powered all this.

Much of the time I ran this company, I was working as a solo founder. I used to joke with people that not only was I the person who built all the technical infrastructure that made all this work, but I also hang pictures and put beds together.

HOW IT WORKS

Users to Moovin’s website could enter in basic information about their property and the rooms that they had or wanted to get new interior design for. Moovin’s algorithm would calculate all the variables that go into producing a design for the specifics of the users property—dimensions, inventory, delivery, setup, pickup, wear & tear, useful life, insurance, etc—and then send them an instant quote for getting started.

In addition to custom designs, Moovin also featured pre-packaged designs, as well as staged designs and traditional moving services.

Realtors, consumers, and property managers were some of Moovin’s customers, with many repeat customers.

Behind the Scenes

While the pretty pictures above show the finished product, the process of creating that product involved a complex choreography of inventory management, supply chains, logistics, finance and more. All of this was made possible via Moovin’s software that I developed. That said, Moovin was a physical service that operated in the physical world, and software certainly wasn’t the only component.
